CSUN to Host Third Annual Child Abuse Prevention Seminar

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., March 27, 2000) - April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Recognizing that, the Child Development Program at Cal State Northridge will host its third annual Child Abuse Prevention Seminar on Saturday, April 8.

The event will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Satellite Student Union's Shoshone Room located at the corner of Lassen Street and Zelzah Avenue.

"Partners in Prevention" will feature faculty members discussing key points on how to help abused children, information from local organizations dedicated to fighting child abuse and a performance by a children's music recording artist.

The seminar will include a presentation by Kathleen Van Antwerp, CSUN alumna and author of the book "I Can't Come to School Today. . .My Mom's in Prison and I Don't Have a Ride."

Van Antwerp, a child mental health specialist who teaches at CSUN and Moorpark College, will provide information on how to identify and report child abuse as well as highlight successful interventions she has initiated in her 14 years working with children.

Maria Del Rey, an award-winning international bilingual artist and children's music performer, will perform. Her new releases include Music for Little People's Lullabies of Latin America and A Universe of Song.
