20th Century Presidents and their Politics
Presented in Editorial Drawings

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Dec. 22, 1999) - Cal State Northridge Art Galleries will display 40 original editorial drawings and cartoons featuring 20th century presidents, from Theodore Roosevelt to Bill Clinton, and their politics, Jan. 10 through April 16, 2000.

Pictorial interpretations of World Wars I and II also will be on display. These works - done in pen and ink or charcoal - were selected from the Dennis Ryan collection, which includes works by renowned cartoonists such as Paul Conrad, Jerry Doyle, Clifford "Baldy" Baldowski, Bill Mauldin, William Gropper and C. Ajax Berryman.

The Art Galleries are located at 18111 Nordhoff St., in Northridge in the Art Dome, ML 236. A lecture about the exhibition by Dennis Ryan will be held on Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. in the Whitsett Room in the Sierra Building located on the west side of the campus.

Graduate students Justin Behrend and Brian Pebble, under the direction of CSUN history professor Ron Davis, have documented the historical significance of each cartoon and biographies of each artist.

The exhibition is organized by the CSUN Art Galleries and co-sponsored by the CSUN Department of History.
