PRESS RELEASE
FOR RELEASE: October 1, 1999
The deadline for nominations is Oct. 16, the universityıs Homecoming Day. Any CSUN alum, faculty, staff or emeriti faculty or staff may make a nomination.
"The awards are the Alumni Association's way of personally expressing our pride in the accomplishments of alumni while at the same time showing our current students as well as the community the caliber of the people who walk through our doors and what they can accomplish," said D.G. ³Gray² Mounger, the association's director.
The 1999 recipients were international opera star Carol Vaness, ethernet computer pioneer Dirk Gates, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Frank del Olmo and charter school innovator/educator Yvonne Chan.
The 2000 winners will be honored at a special dinner on April 15 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel. The past presidents of the Alumni Association will serve as honorary hosts of the event.
A nominee must have attended Cal State Northridge for at least one year, or taken the equivalent of 24 units; reached and remained at the pinnacle of his or her field for a period of time sufficient to demonstrate perseverance and maturation; exhibited a high degree of character and integrity; and must be able to attend the awards ceremony.
Interest, involvement and loyalty to the university may be considered, but will not be a primary factor in the selection process.
Anyone interested in making a nomination can contact CSUN's Alumni Office at (818) 677-2137.
