CSUN Hosts Live National Teleclass

Cal State Northridge's Western Region Outreach Center & Consortia (WROCC), will launch its first satellite uplink by hosting a live national teleclass for faculty who work with deaf or hard of hearing students on Thursday, Sept. 24 from noon to 2 p.m.

A project of the National Center on Deafness, "Focus on Faculty: Effective Pedagogy with Students Who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing" will broadcast live in Room 5, on the garden level of the Oviatt Library in the center of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.

The teleclass will feature strategies from a panel of professionals on how to integrate deaf or hard of hearing students into classrooms. Topics will include using sign language, evaluating written assignments and working with visual aids.

Herb Larson, director of CSUN's National Center on Deafness, will serve as moderator.

Panelists will include Barbara Boyd, NCOD counselor and professor of English; Robert Johnson, professor and dean of Business and Workforce Development at Chabot College in Hayward; Elliot McIntire, CSUN geography professor and interim associate dean, College of Social and Behaviorhal Sciences; Elena Marshisotto, CSUN Math professor and director of Developmental Math Programs; and Maureen Rubin, CSUN journalism professor.

The teleclass is a joint project of WROCC, and CSUN's departments of Academic Technology Information and Resources, Continuing Education Television Network and the College of Extended Learning. WROCC is one of four regional centers of the Postsecondary Education Programs Network (PEPNet). PEPNet is a federally-funded consortium that supports postsecondary institutions serving students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
