Forum Offers Glimpse Behind 'Sesame Street'

The community is invited to join Cal State Northridge students and faculty in a behind the scenes look at the award-winning children's television series "Sesame Street" on Thursday, Oct. 29.

Producers, directors and even a Muppet from the acclaimed program will take part in "Sesame Street Unpaved" at 7:30 p.m. in the university's Performing Arts Center on the east side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

"Their intent is to interest college students into going into the field of children's television," said Judith Marlane, chair of CSUN's Department of Radio-Television-Film. "But it is an opportunity for all of us who have grown up, or whose children have grown up, with "Sesame Street" to get a chance to learn how the program is put together."

"Sesame Street," which is produced by The Children's Television Workshop, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It is seen week day mornings on local public television stations.

"'Sesame Street' has made an impact on generations of children and has revolutionized the children's television programming market," said Marlane. "Everything we, at the university, can do to encourage our students into entering this important field should be supported. We applaud 'Sesame Street' for taking this initiative."
