CSUN Welcomes Students with a Picnic

The annual "President's Welcome Picnic" will take place on the university's Oviatt Lawn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to serve evening students.

Faculty and staff volunteers will join Wilson and other university administrators in dishing out hot dogs, vegetarian hot dogs, chips, watermelon, soft drinks and other goodies to thousands of students. More than 6,000 students participated in the event last year.

"The picnic is a very popular event," said Shellie Smith of the university's Student Development Office, which organizes the picnic each year. "It's a wonderful opportunity for faculty and staff to get to meet out students and show that they care."

"Plus, it's a great chance for students. faculty and staff to relax in the hectic first week of classes," she said.

The fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 31.
