CSUN Ranks in Top Ten for Minority Journalism Graduates

Black Issues in Higher Education has ranked Cal State Northridge ninth in the nation for the number of baccalaureate degrees in journalism it awards minority students.

"Of course we are proud to rank so highly in graduating minority journalists from our program," said Cynthia Rawitch, chair of the university's department of journalism. "Journalism programs across the United States need to do even better when it comes to graduating future journalists of color. Our department is committed to increasing the representation of all of America in the nation's newsrooms.''

According to the report in the August 6th, 1998, issue of Black Issues in Higher Education, Cal State Northridge ranks ninth in the nation overall in the number of journalism degrees it awarded minority students in the 1995-96 academic year.

The university ranked fourth in the nation in the number of Hispanics it awarded journalism degrees, eighth in the nation for the number of Asian Americans who received journalism degrees, and 37th in the nation in the number of journalism degrees it awarded African Americans.
