"Angry Brown Hat" Kicks Off 2nd Season of Latino Arts Collaborative

Cal State Northridge kicks off the second season of its Latino/a Arts Collaborative with the play "The Last Angry Brown Hat" on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. in the university's Performing Arts Center.

The play by Alfredo Ramos center around four Chicanos, all ex-Brown Berets, who reunite for the funeral of a friend and try to salvage the remains of the bond they had 20 years ago.

The play stars Enrique Castillo, who appeared in the film Mi Familia/My Family; Danny Haro, who starred in the film American Me; Del Zamora, who has appeared in the television series NYPD Blue; and Russel Alexander Orozco, who appeared in the film The Man with Two Brains.

The collaborative was created last year to highlight Latino culture.

"We are focusing on expanding and improving the access of cultural programming in Los Angeles County and in particular the university community in the San Fernando Valley," said Florentino Manzano, director of the student resource center and educational opportunities program in the College of Arts, Media, and Communication.

The collaborative has already drawn notice to the university, with New Times Magazine calling CSUN "the hub of Chicano theater in LA..." The magazine also listed the university as "the best place to see Chicano theater" in its Best of LA guide.

Tickets for "The Last Angry Brown Hat" as $12 for general admission. Tickets are available through the university's A.S. Ticket Office, 818/677-2488, or at all Ticket Master outlets. ###
