Animation Festival To Be Held At CSUN

Professional and amateur artists from around the world will gather at Cal State Northridge next month to take part in the "California Sun International Animation Festival." The festival will take place Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9, featuring animation screenings, a job fair, panel discussions, and an awards ceremony. All events will be held in the Campus Theatre on the south side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., in Northridge. The schedule is as follows:

Thursday, May 7

• "Special Effects in Filmmaking." Professionals who have worked behind the scenes in "Men in Black and "Lost World: Jurassic Park" will screen clips from these films and discuss how technologies were integrated to create dramatic visual effects. 7 to 8:30 p.m. This is the only event in the festival open only to students, faculty and staff.

  Friday, May 8

• Screenings of entries by the artists, from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5.

  Saturday, May 9

• Animation For Kids will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. Children's admission is $2.50 and parents free.

• Job fair and exhibitions with studios will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Job opportunities and portfolio reviews will be available. Admission is free.

• An animation panel discussion is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m.

• The "Anie-Ball" gala and awards ceremony will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is $5.

• A final viewing of entries will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
