Wilson Appoints Newest Athletic Task Force Member

Cal State Northridge President Blenda J. Wilson announced Friday the appointment of Sally Thompson, executive director of the Los Angeles City Commission for Children, Youth and Their Families, as the newest member of the university's Task Force on Intercollegiate Athletics.

Thompson, former executive director of New Directions for Youth, a non-profit Van Nuys-based organization working with troubled young people, is the 15th member of the task force. She is the fourth community member to be appointed to the group.

"We're delighted that Sally Thompson has accepted our invitation to serve on the committee. Her appointment rounds out the committee's membership," Wilson said. "I think they are a stellar group and I have great confidence in their ability to fulfill the legislative charge."

The task force was established by Wilson at the request of the state Legislature to develop "a balanced and financially viable athletic program that is in full compliance with the requirements of Title IX and the CSU Cal/NOW consent decree."

The task force will meet every Monday at 7 p.m. through November. It is scheduled to meet in the Grand Salon of CSUN's University Student Union on Monday, Oct. 6, and Monday, Oct. 13. The location of future meetings will be announced.
