CSUN To Host Southern Lecture Series

Cal State Northridge's College of Extended Learning, in cooperation with the Historic Natchez Foundation, presents a "Southern Exposure Semester," a three-day lecture series incorporating education, culture, history, music and even a touch of Southern cooking to give Southern Californians a glimpse of the old South.

The series is a result of history professor Ronald Davis and his long-time relationship with Natchez, Miss.

The scheduled lectures include "The Southern Mystique: The Old South and Myth, Literature and History" on Oct. 4; "Southern Folklore and Folklife: Manners, Magnolias, Mint Juleps and Mules" on Nov. 1; and "Family Roots and Southern Cuisine: A Taste of the Old South- Family Style" on Dec. 6.

The lectures will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at CSUN's University Club at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge. The fee is $180 and includes lectures, amenities, materials and luncheons.

Next spring the university will offer a tour of the cities covered in the lecture series in "Plantation Tour: From New Orleans to the Old Natchez District." Participants can purchase both the lecture series and the tour for $1,580. For more information contact Ronald Davis at (818) 677-4330.
