Zapata, a film, television and stage actor, is the co-founder and director of The Bilingual Foundation of the Arts. She was honored last year for her life time achievements at the 1997 Hispanic Heritage Awards and her theater company is currently performing in numerous schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
The CSUN theater group, Teatro Sin Fronteras, is also scheduled to perform and illustrate the impact of gender inequity in classrooms.
A panel will respond to the performances and answer questions.
Panelists include: Florene Rozen, director of LAUSD Gender Equity Commission; Sharon Schuster, former American Association of University Women national president; Irene Cota, elementary education professor at CSUN, and Deanne Naiman, director of Educational Equity Compliance in the LAUSD.
The presentation is sponsored by Phi Kappa Phi, an honorary society for graduate students, and the LAUSD Gender Equity Commission.
The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be held in the Performing Arts Center, located at 18111 Nordhoff St., in Northridge.
