The annual "President's Welcome Picnic" will take place on the university's Oviatt Lawn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to serve evening students.
Faculty and staff volunteers will join Wilson and other university administrators in dishing out hamburgers, hot dogs, vegetarian burgers, baked beans, soft drinks and other goodies to thousands of students. More than 9,000 students participated in the event last year.
"The picnic has become a very popular event," said Shellie Smith of the university's Student Development Office, which organizes the picnic each year. "It's a great opportunity for faculty and staff to show students that they care. We will have free food, entertainment and a clubs and organizations fair where students can explore ways to get involved on campus.
"Plus, it's a chance for students, faculty and staff to relax in the hectic first week of classes," she added.
The fall semester begins Monday, August 25.
