High School Students to Perform Original Play at CSUN

A group of 26 Jefferson High School students attending inter-session classes at Cal State Northridge, most of them immigrants from Mexico and Central America, will perform an original play Thursday and Friday, Dec. 18 and 19.

The play, "Life in the New World," was written by one of the group's instructors, Doug Kaback, a part-time theater instructor at CSUN. The students, many of whom have been in this country for less than a year, will perform the play in English.

The students have been attending classes at CSUN since Nov. 5 as part of the Los Angeles Unified School District's Emergency Immigrant Education Assistance Program.

Performances of the play will be at 10 and 11:30 a.m. both days in the Studio Theatre in the Speech-Drama Building on the CSUN campus, 18111 Nordhoff St.

For more information or to cover the play, call Lila Silvern, of the Emergency Immigrant Education Assistance Program, (310) 471-1303. For directions to the campus, call the Office of Public Relations, (818) 677-2130.
