Latina Artists To Display Work at CSUN

The art of two emerging Latina artists, Patssi Valdez and Christina Fernandez, will be on display at Cal State Northridge Monday, Jan. 26, through Saturday, Feb. 28.

Valdez will display more than 60 works she created from 1988 through 1997 in her exhibit "Private Landscapes." Valdez has displayed her art in numerous solo and group collections, most recently at the Smithsonian Institution.

Also on display will be photographs by Los Angeles based artist, Christina Fernandez. Her work "The Body is an Analog and Bend: Two Works on Sight," examines family histories and personal stories within a social-political framework. Fernandez's art is displayed with photographs and text in which the narrative of her personal experience is of more importance.

The work will be on display in the Art Dome, on the South side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff Street, in Northridge, Monday and Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m., and Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Both artists will give gallery talks beginning with Valdez on Monday, Feb. 2, and Fernandez on Monday, Feb. 16., both at 10 a.m.

A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, Feb. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Art Dome.
