Last week, CSUN beat Division IA opponent Boise State 63 to 23 and earned $50,000 in the process. For its game Saturday in Honolulu, the University of Hawaii has guaranteed CSUN $90,000, said CSUN's vice president for student affairs Dr. Ronald Kopita.
Kopita, who supervises the athletic department, said CSUN will net about $40,000 from the game after expenses.
Kopita and his wife will make the trip, representing CSUN president Blenda J. Wilson, and will host a pre-game reception for CSUN alumni and supporters in Honolulu.
CSUN set other records as well in last week's game over Boise State, including the number of touchdown passes (six), number of points scored (63), first downs by passing (22), points after touchdowns (nine), and most touchdowns (nine).
The game against Hawaii, also a Division IA team, will be broadcast locally on CSUN's public radio station, KCSN 88.5 FM. CSUN competes in Division IAA, which offers fewer scholarships than teams at the IA level.
In its third game of the season, CSUN plays another Division IA team, New Mexico State, in Las Cruces. Kopita said CSUN will receive a guarantee of $75,000 for that game.
