CSUN Hosts a Night of Chicana Drama

The Latino Arts Collaborative at Cal State Northridge is celebrating Women's History Month by hosting "A Night of Diva Delights," featuring an array of well-known Chicana artists on Friday, March 6.

The artists will come together to reinterpret history influenced by their past, ancestral heritage and the existing conditions of Chicanas as marginalized and exploited.

Teatro Sin Fronteras (Theater Without Borders) will explore intimate moments of Chicana poets and Toni Garcia-Orozco will present an autobiographical statement entitled "Tortillaologist."

The event continues with "Inlaketch," featuring the artists personal experiences through academia, poetry, video, film, music and a canvas painting entitled, "Herstory."

The program also includes a short film by Diana Contreras entitled "Portrait of Light"; Maria Helena Fernandez will present "Hair: Confessions of a Cha Cha Feminist," which focuses on a modern Latina struggle against society's standard of beauty. Josefina Lopez will perform a dance, comedy and drama depicting her upbringing in Boyle Heights entitled "Super Chingona."

The event will be held at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, located on the east side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., in Northridge.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and may be purchased through the Student Union Ticket Office at (818) 677-2488, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
