The international conference featuring the latest technology for people with disabilities will be held at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott and Los Angeles Airport Hilton hotels. Last year, the conference attracted more than 3,000 people from throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
Brenda Premo, director of the state Department of Rehabilitation, will deliver the keynote address at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the Hilton. Her topic will be "A Look at the Future: Technology and Persons With Disabilities."
The conference will feature some 200 information sessions on such diverse topics as basic web page design and tools for accessing the Internet to talking books and classroom materials to teach nonverbal children.
In addition to the Braille music transcription software, the exhibits will feature cutting-edge technology ranging from a computer mouse replacement device that allows users to control cursor movements with their eyes to computers that recognize individual voices.
The exhibits, which will be on display at both hotels, are open to the public from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21.
