"As members of the Cal State Northridge community, it is important that we engage in open dialogue," said Kristin Morgan, coordinator of the day's activities. "In doing so, we gain insight into and an appreciation of other cultures, backgrounds, orientations and abilities through the life experiences of others."
The day's format will involve both large and small group discussions. The event will begin with registration and a welcome at 12:30 p.m. At 1:30 p.m., the audience will break up into smaller groups for an honest and open exchange of ideas and opinions.
A wrap-up session on the day's events will be held at 3:30 p.m.
Project Community, the day's sponsor, is a program aimed at breaking down barriers among people and groups on the Northridge campus. The university recently received a $100,000 grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation's Pluralism and Unity Program that will allow the university to continue Project Community for another two years.
"One of the key components of the grant is to engage the campus community in open dialogue focusing on diversity, inclusion and unity," Morgan said. "As a participant, you will be challenged to address issues that are often not openly discussed on this campus."
