Devol, a CSUN journalism faculty member for 30 years, died in December of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 68.
Tom Reilly, current CSUN journalism chair, said the evening's theme will be "Celebration of a Life: The Teaching and Scholarship of Kenneth Devol."
"Ken Devol's teaching, scholarship and academic leadership touched the lives of many people," Reilly said. "He was a role model and mentor to a generation of the CSUN journalism family."
Devol served as chair of the journalism department from 1969-1981 and as advisor to the Sundial student newspaper from 1963-1969. In 1970, he founded CSUN's chapter of Kappa Tau Alpha, the national journalism scholarship society.
To honor Devol's contributions to the department and its students, a new scholarship has been established in his memory. It will be awarded annually to an outstanding student in the department's law of mass communication course, one of Devol's teaching specialties., and will be presented for the first time this spring.
Donations to the Kenneth Devol Memorial Scholarship fund can be made by check, payable to CSUN Journalism Department, and mailed to the department at Cal State Northridge, 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge 91330-8311. For more information, call the journalism department at (818) 677-3135.
