The company is distinguished for its dedication to the preservation and enrichment of American modern heritage and the uniqueness of black cultural expression.
Jamison joined the dance theater in 1965 and toured around the world as a dancer for 15 years. She later rejoined the company as the artistic director in December of 1989.
The group will celebrate its 40th anniversary this month with its first appearance at the Music Center in Los Angeles.
The reception will be held at 1 p.m., in Sierra Hall room 245, located on the west side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., in Northridge. All faculty, staff, students and the public may attend the reception.
