Dance Ensemble to Perform at CSUN in Honor of Israel's 50th Anniversary

In honor of Israel's 50th anniversary as a state, Cal State Northridge is hosting the Keshet Chaim Dance Ensemble, an American-Israeli group, in its performance of "Jerusalem. A Mystical Journey," on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 21 and 22.

The group incorporates dance and theater while combining custom designed costumes, lighting, original music, images and a pre-recorded narration by Frank Sinatra Jr.

David De'or, one of Israel's premiere singers opens the program with selections from his internationally acclaimed repertoire. De'or, has recently performed with the Baltimore Philharmonic and Zubin Mehta. He is capable of singing as high as three and one half octaves, reaching the notes of a contra-tenor and can drop his voice to the depths of a baritone.

The "mystical journey" takes audience members back in history to scenes found in Talmudic, Biblical and Kabalistic literature, and from creation to the present. Jewish thoughts and ideals are explored as well as the internal struggle of Jewish people and the evolution of the Diaspora and the Holocaust.

The theatre lobby gallery will also feature "Theodor Herzl and the Pioneers Israel," an exhibition highlighting the founder of modern Zionism and the early pioneers of Israel.

The production will be held at the Performing Arts Center, located on the east side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., in Northridge, at 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 22.

Tickets are $75 for patrons who would like to attend a reception after Saturday's performance, $35 for reserved seating and $20 for general admission. For tickets call the Student Union Ticket Office at (818) 677-3093, from 9:30 to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
