Victims of assault and their families in the Santa Clarita Valley will now have a place to go. Cal State Northridge is expanding The Valley Trauma Center to the area in mid May.
The new branch will be located at 24359 Walnut St., Suite B, in Newhall.
The non-profit center is manned primarily by trained volunteers who assist victims of assault through counseling, as well as provide support for their families and significant others.
The center is currently hiring a new staff. Positions include education coordinator, secretary, clinical supervisor and victim service assistants. Those interested can call CSUN's Job line at (818) 677-2087.
Donations to help furnish the new center are also being accepted. Needed items include den chairs, waiting room chairs, desks, small electric typewriters, small sofas, a vacuum cleaner, cleaning supplies, lamps, wall decorations, clocks, office supplies, new toys, bookshelves and magazine subscriptions.
The new center is scheduled to open the week of May 18.
For more information or to make a donation, call (805) 253-1772 or (818) 772-0196.
