The Cal State Northridge Art Gallery will premiere two new exhibits this spring "Photo Op," by David Hume Kennerly and "Art and Craft of Southwest China: Paintings by Shanye Huang," beginning Monday, March 16 and continuing through Saturday, April 18.
"Photo Op," is a collection of 96 framed photographs from Kennerly's archive. His photo journal of recent American history covers the years from Vietnam to the Clinton presidency. Kennerly has received a Pulitzer Prize for his work and is a contributing photographer to Life magazine.
CSUN Professor of History, Ron Davis, will give a gallery talk on this exhibit Monday, March 16, at 10 a.m.
The second exhibition by Huang integrates symbolic and stylistic elements of crafts produced by minority people of southwest China into paintings that also exhibit western and modernist styles.
A collection of embroidered squares created by young women of the Dong and Miao peoples as part of their marriage contract will also be on display.
Huang will give a gallery talk along with Angela Lew from CSUN's China Institute, Monday, March 16, at 11 a.m.
The Art galley is open Monday and Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the gallery is free.
Both Gallery talks and exhibits will be held in the Art Dome, located on the south side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., in Northridge.
