Alumna and Author of Book on Child Abuse To Visit CSUN

In support of National Child Abuse month, Cal State Northridge will host a symposium on reporting child abuse and an open book signing of "I Can't Come to School Today... My Mom's in Prison and I Don't Have A Ride," by CSUN alumna Kathleen Van Antwerp, on Thursday, April 2.

Carol Kelly, CSUN professor of child development, is also scheduled to speak, followed by Van Antewerp and her book signing.

Van Antewerp will discuss the importance of identifying, understanding and helping abused children. Her book is a collection of true stories about at-risk children told in the child's own writing and how Van Antewerp worked to reach, then teach these children.

Van Antewerp also serves as the director of the Family Resource Program for the Community Action Commission of Santa Barbara County and teaches child development at Moorpark College.

The event will begin at 3:15 p.m., in the Matador Bookstore, located on the south side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., in Northridge.

The event is open to the public. Sign language interpreters will be available for the hearing impaired.

For more information, call Dorn Bronson at (805) 642-9337 or (805) 964-8857, at extension #138.
