CSUN Hosts National Satellite Conference on Women

Cal State Northridge is one of more than 400 sites across the country taking part via satellite and the internet in a national women's conference on Saturday, Sept. 28.

"The U.N. Women's Conference One Year Later," sponsored by the President's Interagency Council on Women, will feature speeches by First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala, U.N. Ambassador Madeleine K. Albright and Maureen Reagan. The conference will be moderated by CNN correspondent Judy Woodruff.

Health issues, opportunity and discrimination, domestic violence and economic concerns are among the topics to be discussed.

The conference is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Oviatt Library in the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff.

The event is being sponsored in part by Northridge's DuBois-Hamer Institute; the Los Angeles County Commission for Women; the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.; Sam's Club; the San Fernando Valley African-American Chronicle News; and Los Angeles Valley College, which is also hosting a conference site.

Registration is free, but seating is limited so pre-registration is required. A continental breakfast and lunch is provided at $5 per person with advance registration.
