Cal State Northridge President Blenda Wilson is inviting students, faculty and staff to join her in a celebration of the new academic year on Wednesday, August 28, on the university's Ovaitt Lawn.
The President's "Welcome Picnic" will kick-off "Welcome Week" at the university. The picnic will be held at two times, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in order to serve evening students.
Faculty and staff will serve students hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks. More than over 9,000 students participated in the event last year.
"It's an annual event and an opportunity for faculty and staff to welcome new and returning students to Cal State Northridge," said Shellie Smith of the Student Development Office.
The Student Development Office organizes and sponsors "Welcome Week," a program of special events, special interest booths and other activities, scheduled throughout the first two weeks of the fall semester, which begins August 26.
Other events include "Meet the Clubs Day," scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, tours of the Oviatt Library throughout the week, noontime concerts and movies in the University Student Union.
