The option is designed to equip students to operate in the legal environment of business. It will benefit those student who plan to enter careers in governmentally-regulated industries such as banking, insurance, securities or real estate, or careers that have a legal impact, such as public affairs, contracts management and employment relations.
The Department of Business Law stresses the necessity of analytical thinking skills and the importance of clear oral and written communication.
Melanie Havens, chair of the Business Law Department, said Northridge is one of only a few universities in the country to offer business law as a major.
"We are preparing our business students to work in a world that is more and more regulated by the government and influenced by the law," Havens said.
The business law option is not designed as a pre-law major nor a paralegal program. Students planning to attend law school should seek advice on attending law school from department faculty.
