Katz will speak at 7 p.m. in the West Valley Room of the University Student Union near the center of the campus, located at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
Katz's talk is drawn from his best-selling book by the same name which was published in 1995 with a foreword by Gore Vidal. The was lauded as "lively and provocative" by the New York Times Book Review, and also praised by the San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle, The Village Voice, The Advocate and many other publications.
In 1976, Katz's "Gay American History," and in 1983 his "Gay/Lesbian Almanac," provided some of the first glimpses into the hidden history of same-sex lust and love in the United States. "Gay American History" was reprinted by New American Library in 1992, and "Gay/Lesbian Almanac" was reprinted in 1993 by Carroll and Graf.
Katz also published "Resistance at Christiana", a well-received book on a fugitive slave resistance of 1851, and "Black Woman," a book for young people about an African American pioneer, Lucy Terry Prince. He has also written plays and several articles and reviews.
His visit is sponsored by LesBiGayTrS (The Institute for Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, and Transgender Studies). For more information, call Donald Hall at (818) 677-2011.
