Hundreds Give Their Hearts a Walk

Getting in shape for Halloween, hundreds of San Fernando Valley residents and CSUN students will give their hearts a walk on Sunday, October 27, as they take part in the American Heart Association's 5K at Cal State Northridge.

The noncompetitive 5K Healthy Choice American Heart Walk will raise money to help the American Heart Association fight heart disease and stroke.

The walk will start at 8 a.m. in parking lot "T" on the CSUN campus at the corner of Lindley Avenue and Lassen Street.

Walkers will win prizes based on the amount of money they raise. Each walker who raises $40 will receive a water bottle and those who raise $75 will received an event t-shirt. Other prizes include caps, sweatshirts, sports jackets and Sharper Image gift certificates. Special red caps will honor those walkers who have survived heart disease, heart surgery or stroke.

The event is being sponsored by ConAgra Inc., manufacturer of Healthy Choice food products; Kaiser Permanente; the Times Valley Edition and Great Western Bank.
