Fraternities, Sororities Talk About Date Rape

Members of Cal State Northridge's fraternities and sororities will have a frank discussion about date rape on Saturday, October 26.

The talk is organized by the university's DATE Project, Pan-Hellenic Council and Inter-Fraternity Council as way of educating students about the realities of date and acquaintance rape.

"The presentations are designed not only to increase awareness on campus of date and acquaintance rape, but also to help new members begin to reflect on the choices they make in social situations," said DATE Project director Carolyn Okazaki. "We hope to empower each individual and further enhance and promote better male/female relationships."

The discussion will be led by student peer-educators trained by the DATE Project. The DATE (Discovering Alternatives for Today's Encounters) is a date rape prevention program on campus.

The discussion will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Grand Salon of the University Student Union near the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
