CSUN Conference to Explore Economics
of the Entertainment Industry
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Oct. 6, 2004) -- Representatives from ABC, Paramount, NBC and Warner Bros. will discuss the economics of the entertainment industry at a free one-day conference on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Cal State Northridge.
"The Business in Show Biz" will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Thousand Oaks Room of the University Student Union on the east side of the campus off Zelzah Street in Northridge.
"One of the most difficult things for students who are interested in a career in the entertainment industry is meeting someone in the industry who will actually take a personal interest and help them. There are lots of industry people who are too busy to help, even though they may want to," said Robert Gustafson, director of CSUN's Entertainment Industry Institute. "Our conference provides an opportunity for people who want to offer that help to make contact with people eager for their assistance."
The conference will be divided into two sessions. The first session, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, will feature entertainment executives from the major studios and networks who will discuss the financial side of feature film and television development and distribution.
The afternoon session, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., will feature representatives from ABC, Paramount, NBC and Warner Bros. among others who will explain career opportunities in sales, marketing, business affairs, accounting, finance and law.
Throughout the day there will be opportunities for participants to talk to the panelists.
Participation is limited. To reserve a spot, e-mail Gustafson at robert.gustafson@csun.edu.
