Cal State Northridge Students to 'Rock the Vote'
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Sept. 9, 2004) -- Actor Richard Schiff of The West Wing will join hundreds of Cal State Northridge students on Wednesday, Sept. 15, as they "Rock the Vote" at a daytime concert and rally to raise awareness of the upcoming presidential election and to register voters.
The show, featuring music and speeches from across the political spectrum, will take place from about 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the lawn next to the Student Services Building on the west side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
The event will include a speech by Schiff as well as presentations by Northridge students and faculty about the importance of the upcoming presidential election and other political issues. The local band, Guilt by Association, will perform, and other celebrities are expected to make an appearance.
Unlike most Rock the Vote events, which are organized by the national non-partisan organization Rock the Vote, CSUN student and staff volunteers put this show together. More than 20 student organizations contributed their time and efforts to coordinate the event under the auspices of Associated Students Inc., the university's student government.
Rock the Vote is a non-profit, non-partisan organization founded in 1990 in response to a wave of attacks on freedom of speech and artistic expression. Rock the Vote engages youth in the political process by incorporating the entertainment community and youth culture into its activities. From actors to musicians, comedians to athletes, Rock the Vote harnesses cutting-edge trends and pop culture to make political participation "cool."
