Playwright José Rivera to be at CSUN Opening of
'References of Salvador Dalí Make Me Hot'

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Sept. 7, 2004) -- Acclaimed playwright José Rivera will be on hand Friday, Sept. 10, when Cal State Northridge opens his play, "References of Salvador Dalí Make Me Hot," in its Studio Theatre.

The show begins at 8 p.m. Following the performance, Rivera will talk to members of the audience. The Studio Theatre is located in Nordhoff Hall on the southwest side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

The Obie Award-winning play, directed at CSUN by César Holguín, takes place on a moonlit summer night in Barstow, where a young housewife awaits the return of her husband, a soldier in the first Gulf War. He has won two Obie Awards for playwriting and a Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays Grant. Other awards are a Fulbright Arts Fellowship in playwriting, the Whiting Foundation Writing Award and a McKnight Fellowship. He was a writer-in-residence at London's Royal Court Theatre and co-created/produced the NBC-TV series, "Eerie, Indiana."

"References of Salvador Dalí," which has received rave reviews for performances across the country, runs Sept. 10-12, 15-19 and 22-26. Curtain is at 8 p.m., except on Wednesdays, when it is at 7 p.m., and on Sundays, when it is at 3 p.m.

General admission tickets are $15, $13 for seniors, $12 for CSUN faculty and staff and $10 for students and Northridge alumni. Tickets are available through CSUN's Nordhoff Hall ticket office at (818) 677-2488.
