CSUN's Urban Studies Professor Appointed
to Pasadena's Preservation Commission

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Oct. 22, 2004) -- Julie A. Dercle, assistant professor in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at Cal State Northridge, has been appointed to the Pasadena Historic Preservation Commission.

Dercle represents approximately 1,000 households in Pasadena's first landmark historic district, Bungalow Heaven, where she serves as vice president of the Bungalow Heaven Neighborhood Association's board. Her term on the commission will expire in June 2007.

"I am thrilled to help maintain the quality of life of Bungalow Heaven," said Dercle.

She pointed out her that community was developed during the 1800's and early 1900's and in 2001 was voted by Sunset Magazine "the best place to live in the American South West."

She said she would be privileged to help protect the architectural integrity and peaceful unity of the landmark community.

Dercle holds a master's degree in design from the University of Paris, France, and a professional master of architecture degree as well as a Ph.D. in architecture from UC Berkeley. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the professional arm of the American Planning Association.

In addition to specializing in urban design and planning, Dercle teaches and serves as a faculty advisor for the Urban Studies and Planning Association of Students (USPAS) and is the director of CSUN's Center for Community Service-Learning.
