CHIME Charter to Ease Transition to
Kindergarten with Coffee for Parents

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Sept. 2, 2004) -- Hoping to make the transition to kindergarten a little easier, CHIME Charter Elementary School officials are hosting a "Welcome Coffee" for parents of the school's youngest students on Tuesday, Sept. 7, the first day of classes.

The coffee will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the school's auditorium. CHIME Charter Elementary is located at 19722 Collier St. in Woodland Hills.

While 40 kindergartners make their way to their classrooms for the first time, their parents will be invited to stick around to meet fellow parents and the school's leadership.

"The first day of school can be really difficult for parents, who've been responsible for their own children from the time they were born. Now they have to turn them over to other people. It can be hard," said CHIME's principal Julie Fabrocini. "I think the idea of getting together for coffee and having the opportunity to share with other parents assists not only the parents but also their children, as they make the transition. Going to kindergarten is a big step for everyone."

CHIME Charter Middle School and its sister campus, CHIME Charter Elementary School, are independent schools that provide free public education through affiliation with the Los Angeles Unified School District. The schools serve as demonstration and teacher training sites for Cal State Northridge's nationally acclaimed Michael D. Eisner College of Education.

The CHIME Institute, located at Cal State Northridge, is a national leader in developing and implementing model educational programs and dynamic research and training environments to disseminate best educational practices.
