(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 10, 2004) Ð Scholars argue that participating in art builds self-esteem, problem solving skills, and self-expression through creativity in young people.
Cal State Northridge will celebrate the efforts of a group of young artists with its eigth annual High School Art Show, which opens Friday, Dec. 3.
The exhibition, which runs through Jan. 11 in the university's Art Galleries, features the work of more then 200 students from 39 high schools from throughout the Los Angeles area.
The exhibitors have been selected by individual art teachers at each school to display their creative illustrations in various media, which include paintings, sculptures, videos, graphic designs, and mixed mediums.
"The popularity of this exhibition signals the continued and growing interest of art programs in public and private schools" said Louise Lewis, director of CSUN's Art Galleries.
