USU Pub Moves Underground

(Northridge, Calif., Sept. 3, 2003) -Cal State Northridge's popular eating area, The Pub, has moved "underground" beneath the Fitness Centre in the University Student Union (USU).

The Pub Underground reopened for business Aug. 25. The Pub relocated to accommodate phase one of the USU's extensive renovations estimated to begin between mid October to early November.

"The new location is actually a much nicer place to hangout," said Victor Mancilla, executive chef for the USU.

Offering seating for 277 people, with cooler temperatures and a U-shaped kitchen, the Pub is more accessible for students and can more easily accommodate parties and night events, said Martha Flores, sous-chef.

The reopening introduces students to new "Five for $5" and "Four for $4" menus. Along with its traditional beverages and seasoned fries, the Pub now charbroils their hamburgers.

California State University, Northridge has more than 31,500 full- and part-time students and offers 61 bachelor's and 42 master's degrees as well as 28 education credential programs. Founded in 1958, it is the only four-year university in the San Fernando Valley and the fourth largest in the 23-campus CSU system. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges recently said CSUN "stands as a model to other public urban institutions of higher education."
