CSUN to Offer Free Workshop on Insurance to Educators

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Oct. 10, 2003) - Cal State Northridge is joining with the Insurance Education Foundation (IEF) to offer a free two-day workshop for high school teachers who include the issues surrounding insurance as part of their curriculum.

The workshop, which will be taught by Northridge faculty, will take place on Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25 in the university's College of Business and Economics, located on the west side of the campus near Etiwanda Avenue and Plummer Street.

The workshop is designed to provide educators with a overview of specific segments of the insurance industry.

Topics will include an introduction to risk and insurance, the basics of risk management, automobile insurance, homeowners insurance, life insurance and annuities, health insurance and ethical issues in the insurance industry.

Breakfast and lunch as well as educational materials will be provided free of charge to the attendees.

Cal State Northridge's College of Extended Learning will award 1.5 continuing education units to all participants who complete the workshop. Teachers should contact their local school districts regarding salary credits/points for this offering in advance of registration. The IEF is a nonprofit charitable organization located in Indianapolis, Ind., whose goal is to improve the understanding of insurance and its role in society through the education of teachers and students. This training program and other IEF programs for teachers are made available by contributions from companies, agents, organizations and individuals across the United States who support insurance education.
