New York Fire Chief to Talk About September 11
(NORTHRIDGE, Sept. 6, 2002) - The public is invited to join Cal State Northridge students on Friday, Sept. 13, to hear New York City Fire Department Battalian Chief Jay Jonas recount the horrors of last year's terrorist attacks and the lessons learned since then.
Jonas, a 22-year member of the New York Fire Department, was pulled from the rubble of the World Trade Center only hours after its two main towers collapsed.
He is scheduled to speak at noon on Sept. 13 in the Performing Arts Center on the east side of the campus off Zelzah Street.
Jonas' visit culminates a week of events at Cal State Northridge to commemorate the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, hundreds of students, faculty and staff members are expect to join CSUN President Jolene Koester for a special ceremony to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks.
The ceremony, which is open to the public, will take place at noon on the lawn in front of the Oviatt Library in the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
Other activities include an invitation for students to express their reactions to the attacks through art from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the University Student Union on Monday, Sept. 9; an open mic and candlelight vigil beginning at 6 p.m. at the University Park Apartments on Thursday, Sept. 12; and a visit to the Museum of Tolerance the morning of Sept. 13.
