CSUN to Commemorate Sept. 11 Terrorist Attacks

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Aug. 28, 2002) - Hundreds of students, faculty and staff members are expected to join Cal State Northridge President Jolene Koester for a special ceremony to remember the victims of last year's terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The ceremony, which is open to the public, will take place at noon on the lawn in front of the Oviatt Library in the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

"The ceremony is an opportunity for members of the university community to join with others across the nation and around the world to reflect on the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001," Koester said. "We also hope to reinforce the themes that we focused on during last year's Day of Remembrance.

"At that event, the university as a community affirmed its commitment to promoting respect for all people, valuing the richness of our diversity and honoring the expression of differing views," she said. "These are cornerstones of our democracy and of the university. We must cherish and respect these values especially during times of crisis and adversity."

Joining Koester during the ceremony will be faculty president Michael Neubauer and Associated Students president Josh Lodolo.
