Cal State Northridge Names Auditorium in Honor of
Former AT&T Vice Chairman Charles H. Noski and His Wife
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Dec. 6, 2002) - Cal State Northridge today named a lecture auditorium in honor of alumnus and former AT&T Vice Chairman Charles H. Noski and his wife, Lisa, for their longtime support of the university.
The Charles H. and Lisa J. Noski Auditorium, which serves the university's College of Business and Economics, is located at the corner of Etiwanda Avenue and Plummer Street on the west side of the campus.
Michael Fronmueller, dean of the college, said naming the auditorium in honor of the Noskis was a fitting tribute to a couple that has given so much to the university.
"Not only is he one of our alums, but he is an alum who has not forgotten his college," Fronmueller said. "In addition to a longtime financial commitment to the university, Mr. Noski has given of his time to our students. He has been a frequent lecturer in our classes and takes the time to talk to our students about what it takes to succeed. I think it's fitting that we name the auditorium in honor of a couple who have made a commitment to supporting the quality programs in our college."
Charles and Lisa Noski said they were honored to have the auditorium named after them and were gratified to be able to give back to the community by supporting education.
"Education provides people with an opportunity to follow their dreams. It opens a lot of doors for you," she said.
Her husband agreed.
"The quality education I received from Cal State Northridge almost 30 years ago was clearly the foundation for my future business and career accomplishments," Charles Noski said. "For me, and for many other graduates of the university, it was the beginning of a commitment to life-long learning and an association with CSUN that has been an important and valued part of my personal and professional life."
Charles H. Noski graduated from CSUN in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He earned a master's degree in accounting from the university in 1995.
In 1973, Noski joined the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche, where he became a partner in 1983. Later, he became the firm's national industry director for services to the aerospace and defense industry. He joined Hughes Electronics in 1990 as corporate vice president and controller, serving as the company's chief accounting officer. During this time, he returned to CSUN to receive his master's degree.
In 1992, Hughes named Noski corporate senior vice president and chief financial officer. In 1996, he was elected vice chairman, and later became the company's president and chief operating officer.
In 1999, AT&T hired Noski as its senior executive vice president and chief financial officer. In early 2002, he was named vice chairman of the board. He retired from AT&T last month.
Noski is a member of the boards of directors of Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Northrop Grumman Corporation and Teledyne Technologies Incorporated. He also serves on the board of directors of the California State University, Northridge Foundation. He is a certified public accountant, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a past member of the FASB's Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council.
Earlier this year, the university's Alumni Association honored Noski with its Distinguished Alumni Award, which is presented to individuals who have achieved a high level of success in their chosen fields of endeavor, thus bringing distinction to themselves and their alma mater.
Lisa J. Noski received her bachelor's degree in economics at UCLA and worked for several years as a certified public accountant before becoming a full-time mother. She also attended graduate classes at Northridge in taxation. She is active in volunteer work for National Charity League and Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, Calif.
