CSUN Hosts An Evening at the Cinematheque
Event Features Documentaries by Northridge Professor

(NORTHRIDGE Calif., September 17, 2002) The public is invited to the screening of two documentaries by Cal State Northridge professor Thelma Vickroy on Sept. 27 as part of the universityıs "Evening at the Cinematheque" series.

The evening will begin at 7 p.m. and feature the showing of Gunshots & Word Thoughts and Extraordinarily Ordinary, two films created by Vickroy, a cinema and television arts professor. "I am very excited to have the first screening in the new Alan and Elaine Armer Theater at CSUN," Vickroy said. "Gunshots & Word Thoughts is the second in a series of documentary portraits about eccentric people."

Gunshots & Word Thoughts chronicles Vickroyıs travels to the Ozarks to discover why her 71-year-old father, Lloyd Vickroy, returned to his farm in West Plains, Mo., to work the land.

Vickroy documents the life of 38-year-old Los Angeles artist Val Echavarria, in Extraordinarily Ordinary. The film examines Echavarriaıs struggles as she asserts her individuality as a Mexican-American woman who never plans to have children and is coming to terms with her motherıs death from AIDS and a difficult relationship with her father.

The eveningıs events are free and seating is limited. To reserve seats call the department of cinema and television at (818) 677-3192. For more information, call Thelma Vickroy at (818) 677-6361.
