CSUN Hosts Lecture on How to Keep Your Brain Young

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 7, 2002) æ Where are those keys? What was it I needed to pick up at the store? Who is that speaking to my boss? Those frustrating cerebral eclipses, we all have them, but they tend to be more frequent as we age and in times of stress.

For anyone interested in keeping their brain young and improving their mental performance, author Dr. Gary Small, will share his strategies for enhancing memory, at a Cal State Northridge lecture on Nov. 15.

Small, director of the UCLA Memory Clinic and the UCLA Center on Aging has written "The Memory Bible," a book that reveals key ways to prevent and eliminate forgetfulness and increase memory as we age. In his discussion, Small will provide concise steps for creating a memory fitness program though diet, mental aerobics, stress reduction, training exercises and lifestyle changes.

A renowned neuroscientist, Small is known for his research on mental disorders in the aged, with emphasis on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of Alzheimeršs disease. He has lectured throughout the world and made appearances on many network news programs. The award-winning doctor has authored more than 190 articles and books and his research has been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post and Newsweek.

Sponsored by CSUN Extension, the Interdisciplinary Program in Gerontology and the SAGE Society, an organization for retired and semi-retired seniors interested in intellectual and cultural stimulation, the lecture is free and open to the public.

Smallšs presentation will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 in the Grand Salon of the University Student Union. A book signing will follow and copies of "The Memory Bible" will be available for purchase.
