CSUN Fraternity, Sorority to Host
Holiday Party for Low-Income Children

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Dec. 6, 2002) - Santa Claus isn't expected until Dec. 25th, but the members of a sorority and fraternity at Cal State Northridge have cajoled him into making a special appearance on Thursday, Dec. 19, at a party for low-income children and their families.

CSUN's Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and Sigma Chi fraternity have invited more than 30 children and their families from Los Angeles Family Housing to put their troubles aside for the day and have some old-fashioned Christmas fun at a holiday celebration that will include food, games and a present from Santa for each child.

"As students, we're pretty fortunate and have a lot to be grateful for," said Chris Aristo, a member of Sigma Chi. "We wanted to do something that would give back to the community, especially to children."

The party will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Santa Clarita Room of the University Student Union on the east side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St.

California State University, Northridge has more than 32,000 full- and part-time students and offers 59 bachelor's and 41 master's degrees as well as 28 education credential programs. Founded in 1958, it is the only four-year university in the San Fernando Valley and the fourth largest in the 23-campus CSU system. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges recently said CSUN "stands as a model to other public urban institutions of higher education."
