CSUN's College of Engineering Teams Business
with Local High School Teachers

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 14, 2002) - Cal State Northridge engineering faculty are taking a group of high school teachers to a local high-tech company next week to give them a chance to learn first hand what industry will be looking for in their future employees.

The teachers will visit Delta Tau, one of the leading manufacturers of precision control systems used in such technology as laser eye surgery and robotics, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21. The company's headquarters are located at 21314 Lassen St. in Chatsworth.

"One of our college's priorities is to inform local teachers about the opportunities that exist for their students in the fields of engineering and computer science," said S.T. Mau, dean of CSUN's College of Engineering and Computer Science. "Working with corporate partners, like Delta Tau, offers valuable exposure to areas of the industry that people may not readily consider."

The teachers will tour the facility and have an opportunity to talk to Delta Tau executives about the technology they use in their business as well as what the company can do for them in helping them provide their students with the skills they need to succeed later in life.

Among the high schools participating are Granada Hills, Van Nuys, Cleveland, and Birmingham. Mau said this is the first of several such visits the college plans to arrange as part of its efforts to introduce local teachers to businesses that can share not only cutting-edge technology but also new avenues for educating their students.

Cal State Northridge's College of Engineering and Computer Science is home to several nationally recognized programs where students gain valuable hands-on experience working alongside faculty members and industry professionals on cutting-edge research.
