CSUN Art Galleries Presents "Los Angeles Intersections"
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Aug. 29, 2001) - Cal State Northridge's Art Galleries' latest exhibit focuses on the works of seven contemporary Los Angeles artists, their shared Armenian heritage and their experiences living in Los Angeles.
The show continues through Saturday, Sept. 22, in the Main Gallery on campus, 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.
"Los Angeles Intersections" features the computer and painting techniques of Seta Injeyan; a sculpture by Ani Kupelian; large drawings by Joanne Julian; bronze organic containers created by Eileen Shahbazian symbolizing the struggle for change and growth; a vivid painting by Mahara critiquing the human response to social norms; the work of Tina Bastajian who, through film and video images and voices, reflects the edges of dominant culture, history, and memory, and the spontaneous organic forms of Seta Manoukian that deal with mysticism, spirituality, and male and female energies.
The artists will hold a panel discussion that is open to the public at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Main Gallery.
Information on current and upcoming exhibits at the Main Gallery, the Performing Arts Center Gallery and the West Gallery can be obtained at the Art Galleries' website www.csun.edu/artgalleries/.
The website features a special online exhibition catalog for the "Los Angeles Intersections," with essays by exhibit curator Caroline Lais-Tufenkian and CSUN art professor Betty Ann Brown, as well as reproductions of each artist's works and their biographies.
