CSUN Faculty, Alumni Exchange Images of Home
With Berlin Photographers in Downtown Exhibit
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Oct. 25, 2001) - Cal State Northridge faculty and alumni exchange visions of their city with photographers from Berlin in a special exhibit at BackStreeT Galleries next month.
"My Los Angeles-Mein Berlin" features images by photographers in each city that capture the cultural, social and geographic uniqueness of their hometowns. The exhibit runs from Nov. 3 to Nov. 23 at the BackStreeT Galleries, 11618 West Exposition Blvd. in West Los Angeles.
Among the Los Angeles photographers featured in the exhibit are CSUN faculty members Edward Alfano, Harry Gamboa, Carlos Guerrero and James Sefton and CSUN alumni Myung Chun and Mark Johnson.
CSUN photojournalism professor Kent Kirkton serves as the exhibit's curator.
Kirkton said photos reflect what the photographers felt was representative of their communities.
"These are very personal photographs. Pictures of what the people who live in these cities consider important, not tourists or the rest of the world, but the people who live there," Kirkton said,
Other Los Angeles photographers in the exhibit include Roland Charles, Carolyn Cole, Hans Gutknecht, James Jeffrey and Clarence Williams. The Berlin photographers are Herbert Bentz and Lisa Lorenz.
