Business Guru Barry Posner to Talk About
What Makes a Good Leader at CSUN Breakfast

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 2, 2000) - Internationally recognized business guru Barry Posner will talk about what makes a good leader as well as discuss his most recent leadership studies at an invitation-only breakfast on Thursday, Nov. 9, at Cal State Northridge.

Posner's appearance inaugurates the Distinguished Speaker Series for CSUN's Center for Management and Organizational Development, a university business consulting practice that hopes to provide support to Los Angeles' business community while at the same time bringing real-world experience to students.

"This is part of our outreach to the business community," said Alan Glassman, a CSUN management professor and a founding member of the center. "We truly want them to see us as a training, development and consultation resource. By having Barry Posner speak, we hope to demonstrate the kind of resources we have available for the business community to use."

Glassman said the center will host two distinguished speakers each academic year. A second is planned for this spring. The speaker has yet to be announced.

Posner will be taking part in an intimate breakfast discussion beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the Presentation Room of the Oviatt Library in the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge. Glassman said attendance at the breakfast is being limited so participants can take part in the discussion.

Posner is the author of several best-selling books on leadership, including The Leadership Challenge and Credibility, both considered classics in their field. He has spent decades studying thousands of leaders and their constituents in companies and organizations around the world. He is the dean of the Leavey School of Management at Santa Clara University.
