"I'm sure that somebody I know, or will know, will get AIDS in the future, and I want there to be a cure," said Gaucin, a senior majoring in business law. "I want to help today to find a cure for people tomorrow who get infected.
Gaucin is one of more than 1,000 CSUN students, faculty, staff and alumni expected to take part in the annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles on Sunday, Oct. 15. E
ach year, more than 26,000 people from across the Southland walk to raise awareness of AIDS and HIV and raise money for continued direct client services to help those with the disease. And each year, CSUN sends a team to participate.
Fred Strache, interim vice president for student affairs, said the AIDS Walk has become a CSUN fall tradition.
"It's the way we start the university's year, with people from across the campus community all participating in what is a very worthwhile cause. And it gives a chance for all of us to be more aware of what is still a major, major threat ‹ AIDS," Strache said.
Amy Reichbach, a health educator at the university and CSUN's AIDS Walk team leader, agreed, adding that the university invites members of the community to join its team.
"We are encouraging all members of the community to participate," Reichbach said. "It's an excellent way to show that CSUN cares."
